BlackClassics - Black Classical Musicians aims to raise awareness of the people of African and Caribbean origin who have made significant contributions towards the western traditions of classical music in Europe for over 500 years. A Black presence has existed within European societies for thousands of years.
The website opens a window onto the world of the Black classical musician, showing us the history, the music, and the challenges which they had to overcome in order to pursue their love of classical music. In the present day, there is new interest in music written by Black musicians from the past. The Events page highlights concerts and activities inspired by this new interest, and the Marketplace offers goods and services of interest to all musicians.
Workshops History comes to life with black classical stories and projects - suitable for Key Stages 2 & 3.
Education We assist and collaborate with local authorities, education and cultural interest groups as a resource when organising events. Whether its for an interesting supplementary lesson for your school, or something new to add to a cultural event, BlackClassics will certainly have something different to offer!
