Black Classical Musicians Celebrate Black History Month

Black History Month is held in October every year in the UK.  All over the country local communities organise a variety of events to raise awareness and celebrate the significant contributions made by people of African and Caribbean origin to life in Britain today, as well as throughout our shared history.  These events have brought diverse communities together, and have helped to inspire as well as educate.

Black History Month originated in the United States by American editor Carter G Woodson in 1926.  He had the idea of a nationwide celebration of African-Caribbean history and culture, which takes place each year in the US in February.

As this significant time approaches, some of the many events taking place throughout the UK will be highlighted which celebrate the contributions of Black classical musicians past and present.  Events
